Treatments
The treatment of natural stone is an essential step to guarantee its beauty and durability. In particular, the stone is subjected to treatment phases that vary according to its type and intended use. Outdoor designs must be protected from water and atmospheric agents while indoor applications will be treated mainly to resist various types of stains.
In the case of floors, a pre-treatment step is required before laying to protect the surfaces from grouting dirt and make the operation easier. Moreover, it simplifies the post-installation cleaning, speeding up the drying after the initial washing and the subsequent treatment phases. The function is to preserve over time the beauty of the stone while maintaining the original features and allowing easier maintenance.
A further phase of treatment involves washing after laying. This operation is necessary to remove residues of cement, glues, putty and dirt of various kinds to prevent these substances from sticking to the stone material andaffecting the purity. Washing is carried out with substances that in addition to cleaning the surface, work to prepare the stone to receive the subsequent protective treatment.
The phase following the washing is aimed at protecting the stone for any intended use. It is necessary to protect the material through special substances that prevent the absorption of water and oily stains. It also serves to prevent the formation of mold. This makes maintenance of the finished product easier and extends the life of the materials. It is carried out with a hydro-oleo-repellent treatment.
The last stage of treatment is the finish. The latter serves to further protect the stone, usually consisting of a wax necessary to nourish the stone. This protects the material from surface wear caused by moving furniture and the passage on floors or surface stains. It gives a more nourished and brighter appearance, preserving the desired aesthetic effect, from the glossy to the opaque. The final color can be a natural or wet effect.
